Lotus Exige Sport 380

Lotus Exige Sport 380 Hardtop

The ever-evolving Lotus’s mantra of perpetual improvement can be seen in the Exige Sport 380.  Not only is the Exige Sport 380 the fastest Exige to date, it is a completely integrated driving machine.  It is able to reach a top speed of 178 mph and go from 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds, is powered by a 3.5-litre supercharged V6 engine, and produces 375 hp and 302 lb.-ft. of torque.  A six-speed manual gearbox comes standard with the Exige Sport 380, however, as of spring 2017 they will also offer an optional six-speed automatic gearbox.

In lieu of an electronic system, the Exige Sport 380 features mechanical solutions such as unassisted steering to give drivers an intuitive experience.  Drivers will also appreciate enhanced “sport” and “race” settings thanks to the Lotus Dynamic Performance Management (DPM) system, which increases throttle response and lowers traction slip thresholds.  The DPM also boosts throttle response by utilizing an engine exhaust bypass valve to reduce back pressure.

The Lotus Exige Sport 380’s body is mainly comprised of carbon fiber to lower the center of gravity.  A newly redesigned front access panel, carbon front spoiler, rubber lip spoiler, and carbon barge boards improve aerodynamics.  The addition of twin pairs of front canard wings placed in front of the wheels and a carbon rear wing with air blades behind the rear wheels increases the downforce without creating drag.  It is fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires and ultra-light forged alloy wheels, complete with AP Racing forged, four-piston brake calipers and grooved performance two-piece brake discs.  These changes combined with using a transparent polycarbonate rear window instead of glass, contribute to a reduced dry weight of 2350 lbs.

The exterior comes in ten color options and is sprayed and hand finished.  It features distinctive blackened headlamp surrounds to give the Exige Sport 380 a more aggressive look.  Inside, the carbon fiber seats are covered in either Alcantara leather or tartan with contrast stitching.  Four color options are available to add contrast to the transmission console, HVAC surround, carbon seat eyelets and electric window bezels.  Finally, the Lotus Exige Sport 380 comes with an integrated entertainment system and supports iPod connectivity and Bluetooth.
